Kobe Bryant the UN-MVP!

After an impressive weekend game between the Charlotte Hornets and the Los Angeles Lakers (the impressive part coming from Chris Paul and the Hornets) it became painfully clear how badly Kobe Bryant wants the NBA MVP award. Now before you start thinking that I am just flat out Kobe bashing of which I am not opposed to doing here are my reasons why I think he wants it and is willing to do UN-MVP like things to get it.

1.) DENIAL & FALSE MODESTY – Just like all the Oscar winning stars who claim “Its just great being nominated” we all know that they spent hours preparing a two hour long acceptance speech. As with Kobe Bryant after the game was asked how important the MVP was to him and of course on queue said something along the lines of how its just great to be considered a person who improves his team and that on its own is great. DENIAL & FALSE MODESTY! Seriously isn’t this the same guy who was bashing his team last summer? Now its all about how others think he makes his team better? And improving his team? If anyone is improving the team is Pau Gasol! If Gasol was out you would have seen the Lakers go down in flames against the Hornets.

2.) PR STUNTS – Was it just me or did anyone else notice a viral video take off just in time for the match with New Orleans Hornets. The video has Kobe Bryant jumping over a car that is speeding towards him. Seems like a whole lot of planning and marketing to take attention away from the REAL MVP Chris Paul on game night. It would seem Kobe Bryant and NIKE is pulling some serious viral stuff in order to pump up Bryant’s chances of an MVP award. In case you missed the video here it is:

UPDATE:
3.) DOCUMENTARY - Seems that Spike Lee has jumped on the bandwagon to push for Bryant’s MVP run and started filming a documentary right before the playoffs and MVP announcement. Thanks to Odenized for this find.

And here is the video of Kobe Bryant being asked about the video! Listen to Kobe’s reply and you will know it was all planned hype:

I was glad to read the NY Post talk a bit about why Chris Paul is the TRUE MVP and compared him directly with Kobe Bryant.

“(Chris) Paul, on the other hand, is responsible for just about every thought and deed leading to a Hornets basket - his own, a team top 21.2 points, and teammates, 11.5 dimes, an inhuman 4.6-to-1 assist-turnover ratio. That adds up to nearly 44 points per game, five more than Kobe. Plus, Paul is the NBA’s steal leader.”

Chris Paul doesn’t need Nike marketing spinning viral videos to push an MVP award. Chris Paul IS leading his team and IS making his teammates better. Chris Paul has only been a pro for a short period of time and is already leading his team to a top seed in the hyper competitive Western Conference.

It seems as if Kobe Bryant feels a right of entitlement to the MVP award. Thinking you deserve it doesn’t make you the winner.

Chris Paul is the true MVP this season and to not recognize what he has done for the New Orleans Hornets organization, teammates and the NBA League would be a disaster.

  1. You’re an idiot! Chris Paul is the MVP because he accounts for 5 more of his team’s points than Kobe Bryant? If this is your best bid, then congratulations on proving yourself to be a complete failure. Who in their right mind would give you the opportunity to spew such illogical statements. Kobe isn’t the MVP because he had a good time making a fun video? Just in case you were unaware, Kobe plays for the LOS ANGELES Lakers, a team that is located in Hollywood. Tear down Kobe in order to make Chris Paul look better, that is quite mature. Denial and False Modesty? So you are denying him of an award because of your interpretation of his actions. Have you not seen the 10 interviews in the past week alone of Chris Paul doing the same exact thing. How many all-stars did CP3 have on his team? Who finished with the better record? Who did so while dealing with roster changes and injuries? Who has been playing with injuries? Get your facts straight.

  2. Lets see if my math is good… equality signs denote season performance

    Main supporting cast
    David West >> Lamar Odom
Tyson Chandler < Pau Gasol (only played last part of season)
As far as Bynum goes, MIA.

    KB24 = CP3

Lakers pulling off better record, impressiveness 10x more than Hornets

Oh I forgot, Hornet’s got Peja too, that probably helped.

P.S. if jumping over an aston martin adds any “MVP-points” in the voters mind, then they are retarded. Please note, the general public are not voting for the MVP, the NBA analysts, writers, etc are, and they do this for a living, leave the decision to them and your jealousy in your pants.

  3. when is the announcement for the MVP award?

  4. I agree with you…mostly because I hate Kobe with a burning passion, but looking at it level headed, CP3 has had better seasons than each of Steve Nash’s MVP seasons, plus you can argue that Paul is directly responsible for David West turning into an All-Star.

  5. Kobe is a GREAT player. I love his desire, focus and intensity.
Now, to the real issue: who deserves MVP.
Usually there are 2 trains of thought on how MVP is determined:
    1. Most Valuable to Their Team
No one, not even those HOllywood and media-biased ones, can deny that Paul is surrounded by at best- a good team of role players. Not one player on Hornets can create a shot for themselves. EVERYTHING Hornets do revolves around Paul. With Lakers, you’ve got multiple players who can create their own opportunites: Gasol, Odom, Fisher, etc. No argument, Paul is more valuable to his TEAM.
    2. Statistics
Paul is having one of the most statistically amazing seasons EVER. I think only 4 players have ever averaged 20+ pts and 10+ assists in a season.. Isiah, Magic, Big O to name 3. And add to this league leader in steals and Pts-to-TO ratio? And he shoots 49% from field and 85% from free throw line? Hands down, advantage Paul again.

Just remember all: MVP is not a popularity contest, or who gets more publicity. And the MVP is not an IOU for past snubs.
It’s about this year.. and argue all you want, Chris Paul deserves the 2008 MVP award.

  6. I agree with Johnny up there… YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! Kobe is beast and New Orleans would go down w/o Chris Paul…If Pau went down the have Turiaf and Odom down low it would be no big deal.

  7. Also to add to my past comment to jeffnbigeasy David West can create and so can Chandler dont say anything about them not being able to create because they can
