Chris Paul is doing things from the point guard position we haven’t seen in the NBA in a long time. You are watching a shift in the NBA from “bigs” owning the paint to “floor generals” dishing and directing. Usually in the past there has been some overlap between stars that would qualify as the “passing of the torch” but after last nights game against Jason Kidd and the Mavericks the torch has been taken and rightfully so by Chris Paul.

On one level its got to be tough on Jason Kidd getting owned like that from a team coached by Byron Scott the man he so publicly had disputes with in New Jersey and pushed to get fired. Secondly Jason Kidd cried his way to a trade to arrive with the Dallas Mavericks leveraging his high profile status as a point guard only to get lit up by a young Chris Paul. And last but not least Chris Paul is just handing Jason Kidd his ass on a platter at the point guard position. As if the dynamics of this first round match up were not enough Chris Paul is owning Jason Kidd and playing at a superstar level in the NBA playoffs.

Mark Cuban must be having some sleepless nights after these last two games. This makes mistake #2 Mark Cuban has allowed, the first was allowing Steve Nash to go play somewhere else and second to think Jason Kidd could bring back the glory days of Nash and Nowitzki.

You can bet that Chris Paul and the Hornets will be getting prime time televised games next season. And even though Chris Paul will most likely not win the MVP this year do to writers feeling they “owe” Kobe Bryant the MVP award, Chris Paul is well on his way to becoming an NBA Superstar point guard the likes of which we have not seen since the days of Ervin “Magic” Johnson, John Stockton and Pete Maravich.
